1. INC Dollar Dictionary Drive needs your help

INC (Inter Neighborhood Cooperation) funds a drive every year in order to provide a dictionary and a thesaurus to every third grader in DPS. Many times, these are the only books that some students can truly call their own. WWPNA has made a donation every year for the past 8 years.

The following plea is from the INC drive to raise the funds for these books:

We are still faced with a major shortfall in funding this year’s project. We need the help of all who can give to help make up that shortfall. Please consider us if you have not all ready done so.
Our grateful appreciation is extended to all who have helped so far. INC is a 501(c) (3) non-profit and therefore all donations are fully tax deductible.

2. Weatherization Town Hall at WSCC - 10/01

Join Representative Daniel Kagan and Senator Pat Steadman for a timely Town Hall on Weatherization.

With the change in the weather, and the political climate around conservation, come hear from the experts how to weatherize your home and conserve energy.

Speakers include an expert from Lightly Treading on weatherization and energy efficiency, and Jack Dorwart (HD 3) on weatherization. Also joining us are specialists from XCEL Energy to discuss XCEL's conservation and rebate program.

3. Washington Park Cares Fund Raiser - 10/10

Washington Park Cares will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, October 10, from 5-9 PM at the Dos Chappell Bathhouse in Washington Park.

The event will feature wine, appetizers, a silent auction and a live auction. Tickets for the event are $50 each. They can be purchased via the website www.washingtonparkcares.net or at First Bank of Cherry Creek.

Washington Park Cares is an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people 55 and over by providing a support system to allow them to stay in their own homes and in the neighborhood they love.

Yoga, Yoga, Yoga! Emily is now adding a Wednesday morning adults class from 5:45am to 6:30am. This is in addition to the adults classes Mondays at noon and Thursdays at 5:30pm. Kids yoga is Thursdays at 4:30pm. $48 for 6 weeks or $10 dropin.

Don’t forget Breakfast Fridays! First three Fridays of each month 8:30 to 10 am. Cost is $5.00.

Invitation to participate in the statewide historic preservation plan

WHAT: The Colorado Historical Society will hold a public meeting to give residents of Denver an opportunity to participate in the development of an upcoming State Historic Preservation Plan. The historical society wants your input in order to develop the most effective State Historic Preservation Plan possible, and seeks to identify your community’s strengths and weaknesses in terms of historic preservation. The historical society is also interested to learn how it can provide support and assistance with your community’s local historic preservation goals.

6. 2009 LeafDrop: Rake, Reuse & Recycle - 11/1, 8, 15

It's time once again to rake up and recycle the leaves in your yard and help make sure that they are turned into compost!

On the first three Sundays in November (Nov. 1, 8 & 15), residents may drop off an unlimited amount of leaves at five LeafDrop locations. Two weekday drop-off locations will also be available from October 5th through December 4th. LeafDrop is brought to you by Denver Recycles, a program of Solid Waste Management/Denver Pubic Works.

Removing yard debris, such as leaves, from our waste stream is important in reducing our impact on global warming and the environment. Consider recycling your leaves by digging them into your garden, composting them
at home or using a lawn mower to mulch small amounts into your grass. Using your fallen leaves in this manner can help you create a healthy lawn or garden!

Remember to never sweep your leaves into the street. This clogs up storm sewers and street sweeper vehicles.

Brown Bag Them & Go!
Save your plastic trash bags and our time by bringing your leaves in paper yard debris bags. Unlike plastic bags, brown paper bags can be composted with your leaves. Many hardware, home improvement and
department stores sell paper yard debris bags. Or even better, bring your leaves in reusable containers or tarps that we can empty and give back to you.

Weekday drop-off (closed weekends & HOLIDAYS):

Monday through Friday only, October 5 - December 4 (7 AM to 2:30 PM) - CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY

Beginning on Sept. 1, Xcel Energy is offering its residential customers select rebates on their energy efficiency improvements ranging from installing insulation to ENERGY STAR* home improvements.
