1. October Member Meeting - 10/21
**************************

The fall meeting of WWPNA will be held Wednesday. October 21, from 7-9PM at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 790 S. Corona Street.

The format will be the same "booth" type format as we have done in the past, rather than a formal, sit down meeting. Come and browse the topics that interest you - the new Zoning Code and Zoning Maps, what's happening with Washington / Emerson, etc.

You do not need to be a paid member to attend, come and find out what is happening in our neighborhood and share your concerns for our future!

Any questions please contact Charlie Busch at president@wwpna.org or 303-722-6220.

2. Living Streets Public Workshop and Open House Series
**************************

We no longer think of streets as just for moving cars; They should be for moving all modes of transport including pedestrians, bicycles, and transit. Nor are streets just for moving; they are also the public living room for where we want “be” – for housing, for offices, for businesses, for shopping. This is what the “Living Streets” street is all about.

The Denver Living Streets Initiative is holding five public workshops around the city of Denver in mid-October. The workshops will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn more about “living streets” and to provide important feedback on how we turn our streets into great places that work for everyone. 3. INC Dollar Dictionary Drive needs your help
**************************

INC (Inter Neighborhood Cooperation) funds a drive every year in order to provide a dictionary and a thesaurus to every third grader in DPS. Many times, these are the only books that some students can truly call their own. WWPNA has made a donation every year for the past 8 years.

The following plea is from the INC drive to raise the funds for these books:

We are still faced with a major shortfall in funding this year’s project. We need the help of all who can give to help make up that shortfall. Please consider us if you have not all ready done so.
Our grateful appreciation is extended to all who have helped so far. INC is a 501(c) (3) non-profit and therefore all donations are fully tax deductible.

Donations can be sent to Dollar Dictionary Drive, P.O. Box 18347, Denver, CO 80218 or can be made on our secure website atwww.neighborhoodlink.com/denver/inc (click on ‘Dollar Dictionary Drive’).

Join the hundreds of individuals who have made a donation as well as the RNO donors.

6. 2009 LeafDrop: Rake, Reuse & Recycle - 11/1, 8, 15
**************************

It's time once again to rake up and recycle the leaves in your yard and help make sure that they are turned into compost!

On the first three Sundays in November (Nov. 1, 8 & 15), residents may drop off an unlimited amount of leaves at five LeafDrop locations. Two weekday drop-off locations will also be available from October 5th through December 4th. LeafDrop is brought to you by Denver Recycles, a program of Solid Waste Management/Denver Pubic Works.

Removing yard debris, such as leaves, from our waste stream is important in reducing our impact on global warming and the environment. Consider recycling your leaves by digging them into your garden, composting them
at home or using a lawn mower to mulch small amounts into your grass. Using your fallen leaves in this manner can help you create a healthy lawn or garden!

Remember to never sweep your leaves into the street. This clogs up storm sewers and street sweeper vehicles.

Sunday drop-off locations:

These Sundays only: November 1, 8 & 15 (10 AM to 4 PM)

- Southeast - South High School (Louisiana Ave. & Franklin St.)
- Northwest - Sloan's Lake Park (17th Ave. at Sheridan Blvd.)
- Southwest - John F. Kennedy High School (Newland St. & Brown Pl.)
- East Central - Cranmer Park (3rd Ave. & Clermont St.)
- Northeast - Smiley Middle School (26th Ave. & Holly St.)

Brown Bag Them & Go!
Save your plastic trash bags and our time by bringing your leaves in paper yard debris bags. Unlike plastic bags, brown paper bags can be composted with your leaves. Many hardware, home improvement and
department stores sell paper yard debris bags. Or even better, bring your leaves in reusable containers or tarps that we can empty and give back to you.

Weekday drop-off (closed weekends & HOLIDAYS):

Monday through Friday only, October 5 - December 4 (7 AM to 2:30 PM) - CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY

- Havana Nursery, 10450 Smith Rd. (just south of I-70 on Havana St.)
- Denver Solid Waste Transfer Station, 7301 E. Jewell Ave. (Quebec St. & S. Cherry Creek Dr.)

Weekday LeafDrops must be in tied or secured bags. Paper bags are preferred.

Notes:
> Denver residents only.
> Make sure your leaves do not contain branches or other waste.
> DO NOT drop leaves at these sites except during the times and dates specified.

Don't forget to treat your Halloween jack-o-lanterns to a second chance and compost them with Denver LeafDrop.

Close the Loop by reclaiming your leaves next spring in the form of rich compost at the 2010 Treecycle Mulch Giveaway & LeafDrop Compost Sale.
After April 1, 2010, you may call 720-865-6810 or visit DenverGov.org/DenverRecycles for details.
