Wash Park's Cultural Landscape & Preservation PlanOur neighborhood owes its name and much of its life to the development of Washington Park. Attached is a wonderfully comprehensive report by Denver Parks & Recreation and Historic Denver outlining the development of the park and its landscape. Each file is large, but well worth the download. Folks are encouraged to print them, especially the Preservation Plan in the second file, which provides perhaps the most accessible summary of history and needs. This great resource comes from Kathryn Smith, who is a member of the newly-formed Committee for Washington Park. The purpose of this group is to support the park, especially through maintenance and volunteer projects. The maintenance supervisor for Wash Park and the planner for the south district attend each meeting, but the City must also buy into the plan. To implement the preservation program outlined in these files requires City Council to approve $175,000 in the annual budget, which has not happened to this point, so both volunteer and activist resources are welcomed.
